Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-07-17

This policy is being finalised ahead of our public launch. Everything it says about how the site handles your data is accurate and current — our full registration details are still being added.

The short version

  • You can use the whole site — courses, quizzes, jobs, dashboard — without an account. Accounts are optional.
  • We set no cookies unless you sign in; then a single cookie keeps you logged in. Nothing for ads or tracking.
  • Your XP, streak and progress are saved in your own browser. They reach us only if you sign in and choose to sync them across your devices.
  • If you do create an account we store your name and email, and your password only as a scrambled hash. You can export or delete all of it anytime. We never sell or share it.

The rest of this page is the detail behind those four lines.

Who this policy is from

PlacementClass ("we", "us") operates the website at https://www.placementclass.com. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

Accounts are optional

You can use every part of PlacementClass — courses, notes, quizzes, question banks, the jobs board and your dashboard — without registering or logging in. An account is only needed if you want one; the free content works exactly the same without it.

If you choose to create an account, here is exactly what we collect and store:

  • Your name and email address. The email is how you sign in and how we reach you about your account.
  • Your password is never stored as text. We keep only a one-way cryptographic hash of it (Argon2id), which cannot be reversed back into your password.
  • A record of your active sign-in sessions (the device and rough time), so you can see and sign out of them. If you sign in with Google instead, we store the link to your Google account rather than a password.

To confirm it's really you, and to reset a forgotten password, we email a short one-time code or a reset link through Brevo, our transactional email provider — see the Brevo privacy policy . We don't use your email for marketing, and we never sell or share it.

You can export all your account data or delete your account at any time from your account page.

Progress sync (only if you have an account)

Without an account, your progress never leaves your device — the section below still describes it completely. If you are signed in, you can choose to sync it, and here is exactly what that does:

  • When you press “Sync this device's progress” on your account page, your device sends us a copy of the same progress record described below — XP history, badges, streak, completed lessons, quiz and practice results, applied jobs, and your preferences. It's the same data as the backup code you can export yourself.
  • After that first sync, new progress is sent automatically in small batches while you're signed in, so your phone and laptop stay in step.
  • We keep a copy of that first upload for up to 90 days so we can investigate if you ever tell us your progress looks wrong. After 90 days it's deleted.
  • We re-check XP against our own scoring rules when it arrives, so totals are consistent for everyone. If anything is adjusted, your account page tells you — we don't change your total silently.
  • Sync goes only to our own server on placementclass.com. No third party is involved, and none of it is used for advertising or profiling.
  • Your device keeps its own copy the whole time. Deleting your account removes the synced copy; the copy in your browser is yours to keep or clear.

What's stored on your device

Your progress is saved using localStorage in your browser — a private store on your own device. If you are not signed in, or you never press the sync button, nothing in the list below is transmitted to us or to anyone else:

  • Your XP, level, streak, badges and daily quest progress.
  • Which lessons you've completed, and your quiz and practice-set results.
  • Which jobs you've clicked "apply" on (used to award XP and mark them for you).
  • Your preferences, such as calm mode and reduced animations.
  • A random identifier (an "anonymous ID") generated in your browser. It is not derived from you or your device, and it exists so your progress can be exported and restored intact. If you sync to an account, we receive it as part of that upload and store it so the same device can't be added twice; otherwise we never see it.
  • If you're signed in, a short list of progress entries waiting to be sent to your account (they're removed once we've confirmed them).

All of this lives under keys beginning with pc.v1.. You can delete it at any time by clearing site data for this site in your browser settings — and if you do, it's gone for good, so export a backup code from your dashboard first if you want to keep it. localStorage is not a cookie and is not used to track you across other websites.

Cookies

If you never sign in, we set no cookies at all. When you do sign in, we set a single session cookie that keeps you logged in as you move between pages. It's first-party, marked HttpOnly and Secure, holds only a random session token (not your details), and is never used for advertising or to track you across other sites. Signing out or deleting your account removes it. There's no cookie banner because this is the only cookie and it exists solely to keep you signed in.

YouTube videos

Our lessons are hosted on YouTube. To keep your data (and your mobile bill) to a minimum, we don't load the YouTube player until you ask for it: a lesson page shows a thumbnail image, and the player only loads when you click play. Two things follow from that, and we'd rather state both:

  • The thumbnail itself is an image loaded from YouTube's image servers when the page opens, so YouTube receives your IP address and browser details at that point.
  • Once you click play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which does not store viewing data in cookies for ads. Your viewing is then subject to Google's privacy policy .

Fonts and other requests

Our fonts are served from our own domain, not from Google Fonts, so simply reading a page makes no request to Google. Apart from the YouTube thumbnails described above, browsing this site does not contact third parties.

Links to other websites

Our jobs board and the homepage jobs slider link to employers' official application pages, and we link to our YouTube channel and Telegram group. The live listings are gathered from public company job boards and job APIs when we rebuild the site (in our build system, not from your browser), and every "Apply" button always opens the company's own official page. Once you follow a link off this site, you're on someone else's website under their privacy policy — we have no control over what they collect. We never pass any information about you to them; they simply see a visitor arriving from our site.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Hostinger and served through their content delivery network. Like every web server, theirs records standard technical request logs — IP address, time, page requested, browser user-agent — which exist for security and for keeping the site running. We don't use these logs to build any profile of you.

Children

PlacementClass is built for college students and job seekers, and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone — including children — because the site doesn't ask for it in the first place.

Your rights

Because your progress never leaves your browser, you already hold it directly: you can view it on your dashboard, export a full copy of it as a backup code, and erase it completely by clearing this site's data in your browser. We can't do any of those things for you — we don't have the data.

If you have an account, you can also export everything we hold for it, or delete it entirely, from your account page — deletion is immediate and removes your name, email and password hash. This is how we honour your rights of access, correction and erasure under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that changes how your data is handled — accounts, payments, or a new third-party service — we'll update this page and change the "last updated" date above before the change goes live, not after.
